Ingredients

  • 3-Cups of Sugar
  • 2-lemons sliced
  • Juice of 3 lemons
  • 2-cans Evaporated milk
  • 1-quart whole milk
Combine all of the above, pour into an ice cream freezer and freeze with ice and rock salt.  Depending on how hot it is and how high the humidity is, determines how long it will take to freeze.   Remember Patience is a virtue.  It is well worth the wait.

This is a Martin Family favorite.  I don't know who in the family acquired this recipe, but I am sure glad that they did.  I know that it has been handed down for at least two generations.    I remember when I was growing up in central Missouri, every year when it came time for Grandpa Martin's Birthday, Grandmother would ALWAYS, make a batch of Grandpa's favorite ice cream.  And yes, it became my favorite also.

Since Grandpa's passing in 1996, I have tried to make it every year on his birthday, July 31st.  In fact, I am making a batch right now.   I am Thinking about you, Grandpa!
